Holmen’s wholly owned subsidiary Skärnäs Terminal AB in Iggesund has issued redundancy notices to 20 employees, of whom 14 are collective employees and six are salaried personnel. The main reason is the decline in wood imports passing through the terminal. Workington sysselsätter f n cirka 525 personer. Iggesund Paperboard’s mill in Workington, UK will soon celebrate the 50th anniversary of its first production run. But, this is a company that focuses mainly on the future. Following the latest in a line of investments, it recently restarted its board machine after ANDRITZ rebuilt the press section – increasing capacity 10% and reducing energy consumption by almost 10%.

The Holmen Group, it seems, likes giving chal-lenges to its employees as well as its suppli-ers. Instead of importing a group of biomass energy experts to run the new power plant, Holmen selected team members from the Workington Mill. This included Bill Williams, Lead Technician, who enjoyed the retraining in the art of power and steam generation.

This spring Paul Okker has become the new Vice-President Sales and Ulf Löfgren has taken on the newly created role of Production Director of the business area’s three production units. I’ve been part of Holmen’s long journey, and it’s been exciting and enjoyable every step of the way, but, looking ahead, I have to say that the best is yet to come! I started out at Paper, working in sales, spent about five years as a marketing manager and wound up heading the business area before taking over as President and CEO almost seven years ago.
